- The size of the vest is the chest of the vest itself, not your measurements. For example, if your chest measures 47 inches, choose a size 50, that gives you three inches of breathing room. Most vests waists are about 2-3 inches smaller than the chest size, so if your waist is larger than your chest, take that into account. For example if your chest is 47 but your waist is 50 inches then you would need a size 54 to take your waist measurement into account.
